What is the CCAT?
The Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test (CCAT) is a pre-employment test that employers use to measure problem-solving, learning ability and critical thinking. It is taken online, usually at home, as part of a job application.
You get 50 questions and 15 minutes — about 18 seconds per question. Very few people finish, and that is expected.
Question types
- Verbal: analogies, sentence completion, word meanings and opposites.
- Maths and logic: word problems, number series, percentages and deductions.
- Spatial reasoning: figure series, odd-one-out and matrices.
Scoring
Your raw score is the number of correct answers; wrong answers are not penalised, so never leave a question blank. Employers compare your score with the benchmark for the role, so a good score depends on the job.
Tips
- Skip any question that takes more than 30 seconds and guess before time runs out.
- Usually no calculator is allowed — practise mental arithmetic.
- Train with timed simulations to get used to the pace.
