How the calculator works
IQ scores follow a normal distribution with an average of 100. The calculator converts your score into a z-score — how many standard deviations it is from 100 — and then into the share of people below it.
The result is the same percentile any IQ test using the same scale would report.
Why scales differ
Not every test uses the same standard deviation. A score of 132 on a scale with SD 16 is about the same as 130 on the usual SD 15 scale, and 148 on the Cattell scale (SD 24) is also about 130.
Always check which scale a score uses before comparing it — especially for high-IQ society requirements, which are usually given as a percentile (often the 98th).
Common thresholds
- 100: the average — 50th percentile.
- 115: one standard deviation above average — about the 84th percentile.
- 130: two standard deviations above average — about the 98th percentile.
- 145: three standard deviations above average — about 1 person in 740.
