How to practise

  • Start with the free sample of your child's grade to see the kinds of questions.
  • Sit next to your child but let them answer alone; read the questions aloud for K–2.
  • After the test, go through the wrong answers together with their explanations, then practise again a few days later.

Questions from parents

Is this the real CogAT?

No. These are original practice questions in the style of the CogAT®, written by IQ Test Coach. CogAT® is a registered trademark of Riverside Insights, which is not affiliated with this website and does not endorse it.

Which grades are covered?

Kindergarten to grade 8. Pick the grade your child is in now (or the grade of the test they will take); the questions get harder from grade to grade. For K–2 every answer is a picture and the question can be read aloud.

What do the three batteries practise?

Verbal: analogies, sentence completion and classification. Quantitative: number analogies, number puzzles and number series. Nonverbal: figure matrices, paper folding and figure classification — the same nine kinds of questions as the real test.

What does the practice score mean?

You see how many answers were right in each battery and an estimated percentile against other children of the same grade on these practice questions. It is not a CogAT score (no SAS, age or grade percentile rank) and it does not predict one.

What is free and what is Premium?

The short sample of every grade, its score and the explanation of three wrong answers are free. Premium unlocks the whole practice test and each battery on its own for every grade, every explanation and the breakdown by kind of question.

What data do you collect about my child?

Nothing that identifies them: you choose a grade, and that is all. If you want the result by e-mail, you type your own address; it is used to send that one e-mail and is not stored.
